Jarrad Branthwaite agrees personal terms with Manchester United, yet the move remains a distant possibility

Jarrad Branthwaite may not become a Manchester United player despite having negotiated personal terms with the Red Devils.

The Red Devils are keen to sign the 21-year old English center back who was impressive in the previous campaign. Especially, after their horrendous campaign at the back. United conceded 58 goals in the Premier League alone ending the league season with a -1 goal difference. Moreover, the Red Devils would endure their worst ever Premier League finish after securing 8th place with 60 points.

Nevertheless, United would salvage their season right at the very end pulling off a major upset in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. Moreover, the Manchester Reds would also secure a place in the upcoming season’s Europa League.

Undoubtedly, INEOS are keen to rebuild United and restore the club to its glory days. Moreover, defense has been identified as a key area for reforming. Especially, considering the massive unavailability of defenders in the previous campaign. The Red Devils would suffer more than 65 separate cases of injury/illness. Additionally, Ten Hag would have to employ midfielders Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat as center backs at one point.

INEOS want Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton. However, Everton have rejected United’s opening offer for the center back. Everton at least want a fee closer to the £70 million mark for the young prolific defender.

But, considering the Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR), United are not keen to match Everton’s £70 million valuation of the 21-year old.

Why do Manchester United want Jarrad Branthwaite?

Injuries at the back are certainly a key factor. Moreover, Raphael Varane has left Old Trafford as a free agent. Harry Maguire is good for England but has failed to perform at the club level consistently. Additionally, Victor Lindelof is good but not class and moreover injury prone.

Lisandro Martinez is a great option. However, injuries have downtrodden him as well. Furthermore, Willy Kambwala is inexperienced and still finding his feet at the Theatre of Dreams.

Branthwaite is strong in the air and is no stranger to physical battles. The 21-year old was vital for the Toffees at the back helping them to a 15th place finish despite facing 8 points deduction. Additionally, INEOS want young players and Branthwaite is an amazing alternative to the current United backline.

The Red Devils could have Branthwaite starting alongside Martinez fostering a young backline. Ten Hag and United will be hoping to secure the 21-year center back as soon as possible.

Real Madrid ready to battle United for Branthwaite

Manchester United will be restricted financially to some extent considering they plan to rebuild the entire squad whilst adhering to the PSR. Meanwhile, Real Madrid can edge out the Red Devils financially after securing top players like Kylian Mbappe for free.

Additionally, Los Blancos also had some injury problem particularly at the back with Eder Militao and David Alaba being kept out of action. Branthwaite could be a wonderful young alternative for Madrid. Moreover, Madrid’s unending glory and strong plans for the future may further tempt the Englishman.

Undoubtedly, Real Madrid and Manchester United are both great clubs. However, the 21-year old may face stiff competition at Madrid from the beginning and may endure reduced gametime. On the contrary, Branthwaite can establish himself as a starter in the United squad rather quickly.

The Red Devils could provide a nice platform for the Englishman if he wants to stay in the Premier League. But, Everton believe that United have recently splurged heavily on center backs and should do the same if they want Branthwaite. However, the Toffees may have to settle for less at the end considering there is an agreement between Branthwaite and United.

Will Manchester United be able to secure a move for the 21-year old or will any other club price the Englishman away? Anticipation builds as the transfer window unfolds more on each day on the Jarrad Branthwaite transfer saga.
