Malacia Exit Certain: Fabrizio Romano Confirms 2026 Departure

Tyrell Malacia is will most certainly leave Manchester United next summer. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his YouTube channel. He has confirmed that the left-back will not sign a new contract and is 100% leaving in 2026.

Here’s what the reports say—and what it means for United.

Why Malacia’s Time Is Up

Malacia’s future at United has been shaky. He was among the “bomb squad” — the group of players out of plans for the first team that consisted of Rashford, Garnacho, Antony, and Sancho. He came close to joining in the summer transfer market. There were negotiations with Elche in La Liga and Eyupspor in Turkey. The transfers then collapsed. More importantly, he is currently in the last year of his contract. Without the new terms, he can leave next July.

Performance & Competition Issues

Malacia has had issues with injuries and inconsistent form. He was absent for the entire 2023–24 season. This was because of a serious issue with his knee. Since coming back, he has only made sparse appearances. With Ruben Amorim, he has never been a regular and did not appear to be suited to the system. United, in the meantime, have signed Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon as left wing-backs. Older players such as Diogo Dalot are able to perform that role too. Thus, Malacia gets pushed out.

Exit Strategy & Timing

Romano is convinced the exit is inevitable: “Tyrell Malacia … will leave the club for sure, 100% in 2026.” United may attempt to sell him prior to summer at a discounted price so as not to lose him for nothing.  Or, he might wait until he departs as a free agent. Either route, his Manchester United story is ending.

Author’s Insight

Malacia’s official exit is not unexpected. He has been out of sync with the direction of the club. Contract dilemma, injuries, and intense competition rendered his position unsustainable. United appear ready to look forward and invest in players that are compatible with their playing style. For Malacia, a new beginning elsewhere could rekindle his career.
