Manchester City could sign the Bayer Leverkusen defender this summer

Manchester City won their fourth consecutive Premier League title last month and will look to maintain their focus on the upcoming window. Along with Pep Guardiola stating that he will leave after his contract with Manchester City ends, many players have also said the same. Kevin De Bruyne received several offers from Saudi Pro League clubs last season, however, the midfielder chose to stay.

This time around, De Bruyne could exit the Etihad if he gets a good offer from Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the Belgian’s contract with Manchester City ends in 2025. On the other hand, Kyle Walker could also leave Manchester City this summer. The English defender’s contract with the club ends in 2026. Walker has achieved everything he could with Man City while captaining the team to a league title as well. Thus, the defender could possibly move away from the Etihad this summer.

Manchester City to have a busy transfer window

The Blues are targeting the Bayer Leverkusen defender, Jeremie Frimpong as a replacement for Kyle Walker. Frimpong was outstanding for the 2023/24 Bundesliga champions. The 23-year-old netted nine goals and provided seven assists in 31 Bundesliga matches. Additionally, the right wing-back’s recent performance caught the eyes of several other clubs. Along with Manchester City, Leverkusen’s league rivals, Bayern Munich have also shown interest in the Dutchman.

However, it will be a massive move for the 23-year-old to come to the Premier League. Additionally, with Xabi Alonso continuing his stay at Leverkusen as the manager, the club will not want to let go of such a huge talent. However, if the Bundesliga winners get the right offer, a deal could be underway. The Dutch defender will be a perfect replacement for Manchester City’s defense if they lose Walker. Moreover, it will be exciting for the Manchester City fans to see Frimpong work under Pep Guardiola’s management, but several factors have to sit right before a decision is made.

Deals away from Leverkusen seem unlikely for Frimpong

Jeremie Frimpong became a key player for Bayer Leverkusen in the recent campaign. The Dutch defender was also seen enjoying his time at the club. Frimpong also shared his happiness after Leverkusen’s ecstatic Bundesliga win. The German side had a stellar season and almost did the treble but unfortunately, lost the Europa League finals to Atalanta. However, the league win along with the DFB Pokal trophy elated their season. Additionally, Frimpong’s bond with Alonso stood out many times. The 23-year-old spoke highly about the manager and said that the players trust him.

While speaking to TNT Sports before their Europa League quarter-finals, Frimpong said,

“You can see it on the pitch, how we’re always happy and like a team. The coaches he’s played under – [Carlo] Ancelotti and Pep – he’s had all this experience. When you have [that], of course, you’ll be good at what you do.”

“Everyone in the locker room was really happy [when Alonso decided to stay]. We gave him a little cheer. Who wants him to leave? Look at what he’s done for Leverkusen. Hopefully this can be many more for us.”

Keeping in mind how happy the player is at Bayern Leverkusen, a move to any other club seems unlikely at the moment. However, if the German side receive offers that are beneficial to the player and the club, a move for Frimpong could be seen.
