Manchester City’s goalkeeper to leave the club next season

Pep Guardiola

Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson, could leave next season. The Brazilian is gaining interest from Saudi clubs. Although it is a shock to all the Man City fans, an exit for Ederson could take place this summer. The Brazil international’s contract with City expires in 2026. However, he is considering other possibilities now.

The 30-year-old’s time at Manchester City has been exceptional. Ederson joined City from Benfica in 2017. After joining City, he went on to win several trophies with the club. During his tenure at City, he won six Premier League titles, a UEFA Super Cup, two, FA Cups, and the Champions League last season. He would get a chance to perform in another FA Cup finals with the Blues this weekend but unfortunately, he is out due to an injury. Additionally, City will be facing Manchester United at Wembley on 25th May.

Ederson has been a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side

The Brazilian goalkeeper has been a savior for Guardiola’s side several times over the years. Ederson won the Premier League Golden Glove for three years in a row. Moreover, he kept 10 clean sheets this season. Over his tenure, he made 332 appearances and won many trophies along the way. He has been a significant player in Manchester City’s squad.

Despite facing a muscle injury this season, Ederson’s performance has been brilliant. The goalkeeper missed only three games this season due to injury struggles. One out of these three was City’s crucial game against West Ham which was the decider for this season’s Premier League title winner. The 30-year-old collided with Cristian Romero in their second last game which was against Tottenham. He fractured his eye socket and this ruled him out of City’s last Premier League game of the season.

Additionally, Ederson won’t be available in the FA Cup finals against United. Therefore, City’s second-choice keeper, Stefan Ortega will perform at Wembley.

What did Fabrizio Romano say about Ederson leaving Manchester City?

There are many rumors about the future of some Manchester City players as well as the manager’s future. Although Pep Guardiola confirmed that he will be there next season, he might leave after his contract expires in 2025. Moreover, some important Man City players have been linked with a move away from the Etihad. Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne are gaining interest from several Saudi Pro League clubs and they could be seen moving there. Although there is no guarantee about Ederson’s future at the moment, a move away from the club could be possible.

While speaking about Ederson’s possible exit on X, football journalist, Fabrizio Romano said,

“Éderson could leave Man City in the summer transfer window in case of good proposal, it’s a possibility. There’s already interest from Saudi Pro League clubs with Éderson considering possibilities at the end of the season. It will be up to the player.”

Moreover, after being taken off against Tottenham, Ortega made a great save. Therefore, City’s second-choice keeper got a ton of compliments.

Ederson then posted pictures on social media of two crucial saves he made against the Lilywhites, with a caption that said: “No one understands but me. See you soon.” Although Pep Guardiola spoke about Ederson in a press conference last week and reaffirmed his importance to the team, the goalkeeper wasn’t happy with the situation after the Tottenham game.

According to sources, the Brazilian will be open to options this summer. Moreover, considering they bought Ederson for £35 million, Manchester City will surely gain profit if they sell the goalkeeper.
