Matt Beard, well-known women’s football coach who passed away the age of 47.
He was born on January 9, 1978. Beard died on September 20, 2025.
He coached numerous clubs. He is most remembered for Liverpool Women and Chelsea Women.

Career Highlights: Matt Beard

Beard began coaching at Millwall Lionesses during 2008–09.
Then he was at Chelsea Women from 2009 until 2012.
He first signed with Liverpool in 2012 and departed in 2015. He gained the Women’s Super League title in 2013 and 2014 during his stay.


Matt also trained in the United States for Boston Breakers.
He was then in managerial charge of West Ham United Women between 2018 and 2020. Matt led them to the FA Women’s Cup Final in 2019.

In 2021, he returned to Liverpool. He assisted them in getting back into the Women’s Super League after they had fallen.
In mid-2025, he was at Burnley Women. But he quit that role after a brief period.

His Character and Legacy

Individuals who knew Beard have nothing but praise for him.  They indicate that he was warm, honest, and deeply committed.  He cared about his players, about the women’s game, and about assembling robust teams.  He assisted in developing the women’s game in England.

Liverpool FC stated they were “deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden death” of Beard. Chelsea released a statement, too. They added that Beard “laid much of the foundations” for what Chelsea Women would be.
