Mikel Arteta gives injury update on Declan Rice and Oleksandr Zinchenko

After Arsenal’s 5:3 victory over Spanish champions Barcelona, Manager Mikel Arteta gives injury update on Declan Rice and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Zinchenko impressed for Arsenal after joining from league champions Manchester City last season. He made 33 apperances across all competitions to help Gunners finish 2nd in the league table.

However his season was hindered due to calf injury which ruled him out for 10 games mid season. The Ukrainian also suffered another calf injury in the final weeks of last campaign which carried over to pre-season now.

Zinchenko in yet to feature in any of the pre-season games. Speaking after Victor over Barcelona, Mikel Arteta stated that Zinchenko was still struggling but he will soon feature for the team. The manager said :-

“Alex had a little muscular issue unfortunately. I think he will be back soon but it’s a shame he hasn’t been with us the whole tour.

New signing Declan Rice also missed the match against Barcelona due to knock in training. The Spaniard said :-

“Dec had quite a strong kick in training so we didn’t want to take the risk.

“He wasn’t really comfortable to train yesterday and we decided not to train.”

Zinchenko might get fit to feature in Ukraine charity match, which will organised in Stanford Bridge Stadium on August 5th. The match for raising funds for Ukraine’s infrastructure and facilities following last year’s war.

However, Arsenal being cautious about Declan Rice at this early stage as he will be important for team’s performance this season. Despite the temporary loss, the hope is to stop minor injury from escalating into a significant setback
