Newcastle could lose a few star players this summer

Newcastle

Newcastle United almost had a spot in the UEFA Conference League but unfortunately fell three points short off Chelsea. The Magpies have had a thrilling season. Their 8-0 win against Sheffield United and the 4-0 win against Tottenham stood out this season. Moreover, they beat Manchester United 3-0 in the Carabao Cup round of 16. They gave Chelsea a tough fight in the quarter-finals but lost during the penalty shootout.

However, the club have begun working towards the next season and are looking for a transition in their squad. According to reports, Callum Wilson, Martin Dubravka, Miguel Almiron, and Sean Longstaff could possibly move away from Newcastle. Additionally, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak are gaining interest from top clubs, however, the Magpies do not want to lose them.

The Magpies will have to sell some of their key players

Newcastle will have to sacrifice some of their star players in order to save funds so they do not break the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Additionally, doing so will also free up some money so they can make purposeful signings this summer. Callum Wilson did not have a great time this season. The 32-year-old was out for several games due to injury struggles. Moreover, with interest from Saudi clubs and his contract ending next summer, he could exit St. James’ Park. Additionally, during the January window, Miguel Almiron almost went to Saudi club Al-Shabab but the deal failed and the Paraguayan continued his stay at Newcastle. The club are sure to return for Almiron this summer. If the deal falls into place, Newcastle would be willing to sell him for a high price.

Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak were brilliant for Newcastle this season

Two players that stood out for the Magpies this season are Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak. However, Newcastle might have to sell one of them to free up some money. Although Newcastle are keen on keeping both of them, selling either will be profitable for the club. Moreover, Guimaraes is gaining interest from top clubs. Manchester City and Arsenal are interested in the striker. However, they are not the only ones competing. Ligue 1 club, Paris Saint-Germain have also been keeping a close eye on the midfielder.

However, PSG will have to find a replacement for Kylian Mbappe as soon as the window opens before signing other deals. On the other hand, Isak scored 21 goals in 30 games this season in the Premier League. Isak’s performance caught the attention of top clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea. However, the Magpies don’t want to let go of the forward. However, Newcastle might have to sell either one of them if they cannot manage their funds.

Dubravka could leave instead of competing for the no.1 spot in the team

The Magpies’ first-choice goalkeeper, Nick Pope was out for the majority of the season due to a dislocated shoulder. Therefore, Martin Dubravka took his place, Although he was expected to be impactful, Nick Pope was missed. Newcastle kept 14 clean sheets last season under Pope and fell to 10 this season, out of which only four were kept by Dubravka. Moreover, Aaron Ramdale lost his No.1 position at Arsenal after David Raya’s entry. Therefore, according to sources, Ramsdale might be looking to move elsewhere. Newcastle have shown interest in the English goalkeeper. Thus, if he moves to St. James’ Park, Dubravka would have to compete with Pope as well as the Arsenal keeper to be their first choice. However, there is no confirmation about Ramsdale to Newcastle yet with Arsenal’s asking price of £30m being too much for Magpies.
