Nottingham Forest Target Christopher Nkunku

Chelsea

English Premier League side Nottingham Forest are in direct talks with Chelsea over the transfer of Christopher Nkunku. Chelsea are busy reshaping the squad. The Blues finally hope for a fresh start. So, they are starting again from scratch. Already, the club has made some important signings. Most of the signings have been in the attacking section. But Chelsea are ready to release some players, too. Christopher Nkunku is now the latest name to leave the club. The player also wants to make this potential move happen. The ball is in Nottingham Forest’s court.

How Nottingham Forest Bottled Last Season

There is a reason why the English Premier League is considered the toughest among all the other leagues. There are some world-class teams. Most of the time, the title changes hands among those particular giants. So why is it so special? This league is special because every participating club can beat every other team. The football fraternity cannot point out any teams as regular mid-table clubs. For instance, a ‘weak’ Leicester City famously clinched the Premier League title back in 2016. Likewise, Nottingham Forest aren’t also a poor side. The club had tasted glory in the past. But for some years, things got worse for Nottingham Forest. The two-time European Cup champions finally bounced back from last season. Under Nuno Espirito Santo, Nottingham Forest made a fairytale run in the Premier League. The club was in the race for a top-four finish after decades. But in the final lap of the season, Nottingham Forest bottled the chance. Once sitting in the third position, the club finished in the seventh slot. Nottingham fans were dreaming of a UEFA Champions League finish. But they have not even qualified for the UEFA Conference League. This time, the club will again go for the same target. To strengthen the squad more, Nottingham Forest now want to add Christopher Nkunku to the team.

Chelsea Want to Sell Christopher Nkunku

There’s absolutely no doubt that Nkunku’s Chelsea days are about to end. The French international arrived at the Stamford Bridge with a lot of hype. But he has miserably failed to deliver. The PSG youth product made his mark when he joined German club RB Leipzig. At that time, the football world considered him as another big French attacker to watch out for. In the Bundesliga, Nkunku scored 70 goals in 172 matches. The winger also provided 56 assists. He signed for Chelsea back in the 2023-24 season. When he arrived, the Blues were struggling a lot. Now, he is about to leave under a circumstance when Chelsea are back again. In his Chelsea spell, Nkunku has bagged just 18 goals and 5 assists. Nkunku had a disastrous performance in the last season, too. He only managed to score 3 goals in 27 matches for Chelsea. This was more than enough for the club officials to offload Nkunku from the squad. He had his last chance to prove himself in the latest edition of the FIFA Club World Cup. While Chelsea won the trophy, Nkunku again flopped. In 7 matches, his only contribution was a single goal. The club didn’t think twice to selling him after this.

Nottingham Forest Must Hurry in Getting Nkunku

Although Christopher Nkunku failed to deliver in Chelsea colours, several clubs are still interested in him. Other than the Garibaldis, Newcastle United want to buy Nkunku from Chelsea. Chelsea have set a price tag of £45 million for the player. Ironically, it had cost Chelsea £52 million to buy Nkunku from Leipzig. Rumours came that Manchester United are also willing to get the services of Nkunku. But there is no further development in that story.

Author’s Note

Chelsea have already signed many attackers ahead of the new season. The club has decided to sell Nkunku and Joao Felix as soon as possible to create a balance in the team. While Felix has high chances of going back to Benfica, Nkunku’s next destination is still uncertain. With the possible inclusion of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, Christopher Nkunku has agreed to call it a day at Chelsea.
