Number of players exiting Stamford Bridge: Levi Colwill in high demand for PSG

Antonio Nusa

Levi Colwill of Chelsea is in high demand by clubs all around the world, most notably PSG. It is stricking to witness the number of players listed and in talks to be sold over the next few days at Stamford Bridge. It is no shock, as several reports suggest that Chelsea will be going through a recovery and transition phase. Under new boss Enzo Maresca, several players are about to leave the club immediately. Although a rebuild is required for a new philosophy under a new manager to entail, the question of sustainability always remains. This is more so because the club under question has gone through a number of tumultuous years. Risking everything under a newly promoted manager with not so much experience is a high-risk factor. Colwill might be the most sought-out player, but other Chelsea stars are also in a mess.

Chelsea stars getting swiped away: Levi Colwill and others

Romelu Lukaku, Armando Broja, Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Malang Sarr and Kepa Arrizabalaga are some top names who might not see the light of the new season in the Premier League. Maatsen is already in demand by the new Bayern coach, Vincent Kompany. While others have made a name for themselves by playing in top clubs around Europe. However, most of these players have expressed their desire to stay at Stamford Bridge. Broja wants to make a name for himself as a striker, while Gallagher is in top form. Chelsea is interested in buying Benjamin Šeško, thus making room and funds for the Slovenian.

It is absolutely clear that Levi Colwill is among the best performers in the club, along with Conor Gallagher and prodigy Cole Palmer. The £100,000-per-week Chelsea star is highly in demand by Liverpool, and going to their immediate rivals will be thrashing. Another interesting team that has marked Levi Colwill is PSG, who have initiated small talks with Chelsea. In the past few years, English footballers making transfers around the world have become quite common. Levi Colwill had cemented his position under Pochettino and was a regular. He made over 30 appearances and was crucial for Chelsea in the later half of the season.

Maresca and Colwill: What is the future?

Colwill is just 21 and boasts huge potential as a defender. Arne Slot is considering him as a long-term replacement for Liverpool legend Virgil Van Dijk. This will also work as a smooth transition phase in the defense. The French Champions, PSG, on the other hand, want to bolster their backline, and Luis Enrique is aiming for the Champions League. A strong backup is pre-requisite, to say the least. Former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi had praise for Levi Colwill. He said;

“He’s a good guy, he’s improving a lot. This year his improvement has been fantastic …”

Colwill, along with other Chelsea players, are definitely a bargain. Be it PSG or any other club, these young stars are ready to shine and make a name for themselves. It would have been better if the board thought a bit about utilising their potential to the fullest rather than going for names who are making headlines.
