Tavares wants to stay at Arsenal next season

Nuno Tavares recently spoke about his future in the interview. According to Noticias Ao Minuto, Tavares has made a decision to return to Emirates despite receiving offers from other clubs. Arsenal signed the Portugese defender in 2021. Tavares has contract with North London club until 2025 and hence is looking forward to leave his mark at the club.

“Everyone knows that I have another year left on my Arsenal contract. I have people I trust looking after my future. There have been a few approaches, but I always leave it to whoever is in the charge of my future” – Nuno Tavares about his future.

Tavares expressed that his priority is to return to Arsenal. However it is uncertain if Arteta is going to provide Tavares a chance to play or stay with the club. Tavares also talked about his time with Gunners and other loan spells.

Tavares said he is unable to understand what the problem was in his time at North London. He said he doesn’t know wheter it was competition with Kieran Tierney. However the Portugese defender said he was the happiest and it was the best moment of his career when he joined Marseille on a loan move in 2022. Tavares also said that he wanted Marseille to have an option to buy him. However Arsenal refused to mention that option in the contract.

Nuno Tavares’s career

Nuno Tavares started his career at Benfica after coming through their youth team. Tavares did the most of his time at Benfica and certainly caught the eyes of bigger clubs. In 2021, Arsenal signed the portugese defender for around £8 million. However he was unable to achieve the place as regular starter for Mikel Arteta over Kieran Tierney. Then in 2022, Arsenal signed Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City, which made chances of Tavares starting very slim.

As a result, Tavares was sent on a loan spell to French club Marseille. Tavares seemed to find back his good form due to starting on a regular basis. Tavares played 39 matches across all competition in 2022/23 season and even managed to score 6 goals.

In 2023, Tavares was again sent on a loan. This time it was Premier League club Nottingham Forest. Nottingham Forest signed Tavares for £12 million with an option to buy. However it again came downhill for Tavares as he was not able to met the expectations the club had from him. As a result, Tavares only played 8 Premier League fixtures throughout the 2023/24 season.

Nottingham Forest linked with new left back

Nottingham Forest are reported to part ways with Nuno Tavares and Omar Richards. This leaves only Harry Toffolo as their left back who was also their regular starter in 2023/24 season. Forest are now linked with Bradley Locko. Locko is 22 years old and currently plays for Brest in Ligue 1. He made 33 appearances in the league in 2023/24 season and has caught eyes of many clubs from Germany, Italy ans England.
