Liverpool ended their season with a 2-0 victory against Wolves. Anfield bidded a very emotional farewell to their manager Jurgen Klopp. Klopp in his farewell speech started Arne Slot chant to hint Liverpool fans about their next manager. The change in management could also bring some key changes in lineup next season along with some crucial signings.
Liverpool finished 3rd in Premier League securing their place in Champions League next season. The Reds will be back in champions league after one year gap with a new manager. Over the past months Liverpool were linked with various managers. The announcement from Klopp about leaving the club made the club go out to hunt for his potential replacement. The one name which was heavily linked was Arne Slot. Recently Liverpool have made an official announcement about their new manager. Arne Slot has been welcomed on the official site of Liverpool.
Slot’s managerial career
Slot had a 18 year long career as a player where he played as a midfielder. In his final years Slot was reported to behave like a manager due to his passion and vision. Slot retired in 2013 but immediately went on to take a job as youth coach. After spending a year there he was appointed as assistant coach at Cambuur. In 2016 Slot started to work as interim coach at Cambuur where he helped the club to reach the KNVB cup semifinals for the first time ever.
In 2017 Slot joined AZ Alkmaar as an assistant coach. The club announced Slot as the head coach for the season 2019-20. Slot earned 2.11 points oer game which was highest in AZ’s history. In 2021 Slot took the charge as Feyenoord manager. His work at Feyenoord was magnificent and has been catching eyes of big clubs.
What made Liverpool go after Slot
Liverpool were scouting all the top managers in Europe. Many names were linked with The Reds including club legend Xabi Alonso. Alonso was priority of the club but the spanish manager announced that he was staying with Bayer Leverkusen. Another name that was linked was young portugese manager Ruben Amorim. However that deal was reported to have collapsed too. This made Slot a top target and paved his way to Premier League.
Arne Slot prefers 4-2-3-1 lineup with two holding midfielders to strengthen the defense. His tactics to use wingers to create chances also makes this formation effective for attackers. Slot is often known for dominating in possession and high pressing to win the ball as soon as possible. Liverpool could use his passion and tactics to dominate not only in England but also in Europe.
Possible Liverpool lineup next season
A lot of current Liverpool players seem to start next season too as regular starters. However the new signing could force them to adapt in new positions. As far as goal keeper is concerned, Alisson Becker will be undoubtedly be the first choice keeper.
The defense line could be different next season. Liverpool are linked with Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida who seems to follow Slot on his path to England. Along with him Antonio Silva is also linked heavily. Geertruida can play as right back too. Conor Bradley is showing his talent and may earn him a spot as regular starter. It will force Trent Alexander Arnold to play higher as holding midfielder. Arnold known for his involvement in attacking could adapt at this new position very soon.
The Midfield may showcase some of the regular starters along with some new faces. Currently Dani Olmo and Khephren Thuram have been linked with a move to Anfield. It would be also key to see what Mohamed Salah’s future holds with Liverpool.
Liverpool are also reported to sign a striker this summer. Darwin Nunez is heavily linked with a move away from Anfield. Currently the reds are linked with Victor Osimhen and Anthony Gordon. Liverpool will also like to hear the thoughts of Slot before going into the market and hope to find perfect players which will benefit Slot’s tactics.
