Rytting Kaneryd wins Chelsea Goal of the Season!

Rytting Kaneryd’s goal is the ‘Chelsea Goal of the Season’ winner as she pulled out a wonderful volley against Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays WSL. Eventually, Chelsea defeated Spurs 5-2 in that match. The Swedish winger followed the ball until it reached her and executed a volley of matchless beauty from a half chance that ended up in the net. Kaneryd’s swift decision to strike it first time made both her marker and the goalkeeper witnesses like the rest. While nine out of ten footballers would have brought the ball down first before striking, Kaneryd did the unexpected. In the poll set by Chelsea, a lion’s share of fans voted Kaneryd’s volley as the ‘Goal of the Season’.

All You Need to Know about Chelsea Star Rytting Kaneryd

Very few female footballers are followed worldwide and Chelsea winger Rytting Kaneryd is definitely one of them. She joined the Blues from BK Hacken back in 2022. She has spent some fruitful seasons with BK Hacken where she scored 15 goals. But her ambitious journey began at the age of just 17. Considered a special talent, Kaneryd played for FC Rosengard before joining Hacken. At Rosengard, she got her first breakthrough season in her career. Rytting played a significant role in ending Rosengard’s 11-year trophy drought. Finally in the 2022-23 season, Chelsea roped her in and since then the versatile winger has been starting for the Blues’ women’s division. Her international career graph is also on the rise. Although she made her Sweden debut in 2021, she bagged her first international goal in 2022 against Brazil. She took part in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and helped her country finish in third place. Eventually, she had a decent performance in Sweden colour and she will be in the core group of Swedish national team for the EURO 2025.

A ‘Wonder Goal’ by Chelsea’s ‘Wonder Woman’

Acrobatic screamers are always special. But executing that needs perfection. The way of playing a 90-minute match has also changed a lot. More direct passes are used while attacking when building possession from the back. Women’s football isn’t an exception here. For instance, this goal that turned out as the ‘Chelsea Goal of the Season’ is the outcome of this direct football. During that moment, Chelsea’s women’s side were maintaining a mid-press over Tottenham’s women’s team. It would have been difficult to find a space to score. But at that moment, Chelsea captain Millie Bright found Kaneryd out of nowhere. She delivered a swerving, lofted pass towards Rytting. Now, most of the players would try to control the ball at first but the swift winger took only seconds to know the position of the goalkeeper. And then she did the wonder by striking that mid-air ball as a first-touch volley. Neither the marking defender nor the Tottenham goalkeeper had a chance to clear the shot. The way she hit the ball, there was only one result. Among 12 nominations, this goal by Rytting Kaneryd was voted as Chelsea’s ‘Goal of the Season’ in the Barclays Women’s Super League. As a matter of fact, WSL selected this stunning goal as October’s ‘Goal of the Month’ this season.

Chelsea’s Goal of the Season: The Artist on Her Art

“The first goal was probably the nicest goal I scored so far in my career.” – said Rytting Kaneryd, in an interview after the derby against Tottenham. However, she also scored a second goal that sealed the game for her side. The last goal was something that was one of the parts of the practice sets. However, she remained humble and expressed that everyone on the pitch gave their best. She also respected Tottenham who were tricky sometimes in the match. Chelsea went on to clinch the WSL title this year and the club will be looking to taste more successes in the women’s division.
