Sesko rejects Arsenal as he wants to continue in Germany

Arsenal were heavily linked with Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko over the last weeks. The Premier League club was ready to pay big price for the 21 year old striker. However the deal has now collapsed as Sesko wants to continue in Germany. The Slovenian international has signed a new contract with RB Leipzig.

The Gunners are going to have a busy summer transfer window. The filling of striker position seems to be very important for Mikel Arteta. Due to inconsistency in scoring, the first choice strikers have their future uncertain at North London. Eddie Nketiah very likely seems to move awag from the club. Kai Havertz started most of the matches as striker in 2023/24 season. However its not the German’s natural position and Arteta is sure of that. Over the past months, Gunners were linked to various strikers and some of them were very likely to join the club. One of those names was Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko.

Arsenal were very close to Sesko

Arsenal were very likely viewed as Sesko’s next destination. The Gunners monitored Sesko very closely and were reported to have made the move for him. Arsenal were willing to pay £55 million which was release clause mentioned in Slovenian striker’s contract. Most of the football experts and Pundits believed that Sesko could be finally on his way to North London in summer. However, the Slovenian had other plans. The 21 year old striker has now signed a new contract with RB Leipzig. The new contract keeps Sesko at Germany until 2029.

Why Sesko wants to stay at Germany

Along with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were also interested in Sesko. However, Sesko has opted to stay at Leipzig and signed new contract which keeps him at club until 2029. Leipzig has announced the contract extension on official RB Leipzig website. Leipzig signed Sesko from Salzburg last summer. The deal was completed easily due to the shared ownership between Leipzig and Salzburg. The Slovenian international played 42 games across all competitions for the German club. In those matches, he was able to find the back of the net 18 times and also provided 2 assists. This performance forced Leipzig in offering the Slovenian striker a new contract.

Sesko recently spoke about why he rejected Arsenal or any other club. The 21 year old striker said that he is very happy with his time at Germany. He praised the club, city and the fans. According to Sesko signing the contract extension was the only logical next step to him. He said it is very important for his development and wants to pay back the club for having so much trust in him. Sesko reveals that he is very focused and wants to achieve more with Leipzig. However Leipzig’s gain could be Arsenal’s loss as they need to start their hunt for striker over again.

Arsenal’s options for striker

Arsenal fans will be disappointed with the news about failure to sign Sesko. Fortunately, the Gunners have many options available. Eddie Nketiah made 27 premier league appearances this term but only managed to score 5 times. Mikel Arteta is disappointed and wants to sell Nketiah. Gunners will be able to earn around £30 million from Nketiah’s sale. This could also help the club in signing the new striker.

The Gunners are reported looking after Joshua Zirkzee. Zirkzee is 23 year old Dutch striker who currently plays for Bologna. The Gunners have also been linked recently to Dominic Solanke. Earlier the North London club were linked with Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak and many more. The transfer market will be opening very shortly and the club now needs to take some crucial decisions.
