Viktor Gyokeres Transfer? Arsenal-Sporting Clash on Clauses!

Viktor Gyokeres

The Transfer of Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal is facing a new issue. Sporting CP want to add four clauses in the agreement with the Gunners for Gyokeres. However, Arsenal are not okay with this and unhappy with Sporting CP’s stance this summer. Therefore, this dispute between them on the clause has slowed down a deal for Gyokeres.

Viktor Gyokeres Deal Details

Arsenal have agreed a fee of around €75 million fixed fee + €10 million performance related add-ons with Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres. Also, the personal terms and wages are also agreed between Arsenal and the player. However, the deal is not sealed as of now.

According to sources, Sporting CP want to include four clauses in the deal. The four clauses in the deal are :-

  • Sell on percentage
  • Ballon d’or bonus
  • Champions League appearance bonus
  • Buy back option or matching rights

According to top journalists from Europe, Arsenal do not have issue with the first two clauses. However, they do not want any buy back clause or matching rights. In this case, they feel that such a clause can reduce their control on the player. Also, the practice of matching rights clause is rarely accepted by the Premier League clubs.

Sporting Stance on Viktor Gyokeres

Sporting CP Director, President, Manager all see Gyokeres as a top player of huge value. However, they know that Gyokeres does not want to stay at the club. Also, they can not turn down the release clause amount. The deal is very complicated as Sporting CP President has openly said that they will critically bargain for every details of the deal. Also, the situation between Viktor and Sporting CP is totally broken as the player feels that the club has violated the Gentleman’s Agreement done last year that would let him leave for €65 million total fee. Sporting’s chance has changed and now Viktor is frustrated with the club.

Sporting CP feel that if they have a control over Viktor’s future they can get more from this deal. They are trying to increase the returns on their investment on Gyokeres.

What it means for Arsenal and Gyokeres?

It is a big news for Arsenal and their fans that they have almost completed the deal to sign Sporting CP in this year’s transfer window. This is a part of Mikel Arteta’s plan to add a top pure Number 9 to the team. The player has pace, power and experience at top level. Arteta believes that this signing will increase the strength of their attack and finishing.

However, there are still some disputes related to Clause. Arsenal are firm to maintain full rights over the player. They do not want any strings attached that can affect future sales.

From Gyokeres’s point of view, this delay in the deal is very frustrating. He has already agreed contract on personal terms with Arsenal. Also, he has clearly told Sporting CP that he will never play for them again due to their tense situation. He is currently training individually and waiting for both the clubs to find a solution soon.

Author’s Opinion

This deal tells us the difference between smart negotiations and over complication. Sporting CP have every right to ask for the value. However, they are over complicating a deal by asking for Objectionable clause in the agreement.

For Arsenal, the situation is clear. They do not want to agree for such clauses. It is a matter of their principle, power and planning. However, Gyokeres looks like the missing piece in Arsenal Team. They should find a solution by keeping in mind not to lose the control over the future of player.

Currently Everything depends on Sporting CP. If they respect the player and the offer they should let go of their complicated and objectionable clauses. Otherwise, Arsenal may walk away from the deal and then the situation between Sporting and Gyokeres will turn worse.

It would be interesting to see how the deal goes. Will Arsenal and Sporting find a solution? Will Gyokeres join Arsenal this summer?
