After having a spectacular start, Spurs have now hijacked the Dutch international, Xavi Simons, from Chelsea’s grasp. UEFA Europa League champions, Spurs have once again made a statement in the early stages of the new season of EPL. Chelsea were in serious talks with Xavi since July and the Blues were confident in securing the deal. But out of the blue, Tottenham Hotspur have now successfully sealed the deal of Xavi Simons. According to the latest news, Spurs have already booked the medicals of their new signing. With this quite shocking and high-profile signing, Spurs have emerged as the dark horse of this season.
Chelsea aren’t Disheartened with the Hijack of Xavi Simons
Are Chelsea absolutely gutted with this deal between Xavi Simons and Spurs? The answer is a ‘no’ here. The Blues were indeed in prolonged negotiations with both Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho. While the Chelsea fans were expecting both of them to join the club, this was practically impossible to do. Both Garnacho and Xavi operate from the same position. Although most of the fans wanted Xavi to sign for Chelsea but Manchester United winger, Garnacho was always one step closer. In the meantime, Chelsea have finally secured the deal of the Argentine winger. Spurs joined the race out of nowhere and agreed to pay €60 million for Xavi Simons. After this bold move, the German club didn’t want to delay the procedures. Despite agreeing on the terms with Chelsea, the Dutch winger will officially become the new sensation among the Tottenham supporters. This brings back the memories of 2013 when Willian decided to join Chelsea after agreeing terms with Tottenham Hotspur. But this time, the tables have turned upside down.
Spurs don’t Miss Eberechi Eze Anymore
Tottenham has already suffered a betrayal to remember for a long time. Since that iconic transfer window of 2001, when Sol Campbell signed for arch-rivals Arsenal, once again Tottenham Hotspur got betrayed by a footballer. Despite assuring the Spurs management of his joining, Eze signed for Arsenal. As a result of this, Spurs had to suffer a severe media backlash. The fans also went clueless for some days. But it’s all past now. The football experts also feel that Spurs did a decent job and have found the solid replacement of Eberechi Eze. With Kudus already operating from the right flank, the inclusion of Xavi Simons will surely now add more power in the attacking third. Xavi Simons has played 78 official matches for RB Leipzig and he has registered 22 goals and 24 assists for the German club. Chelsea & Spurs Have Enjoyed a Positive First Week
Both these London-based football clubs haven’t tasted season’s first defeat yet. Chelsea began their campaign with a draw against the current FA Community Shield holders, Crystal Palace. But in the very next fixture, the Blues bounced back in style. They thrashed West Ham United by a 5-1 scoreline. On the other hand, Spurs have started their season brilliantly. First, they defeated Burnley 3-0. Then, they had the last laugh against Manchester City as they beat them 2-0. Coaches have come and gone but one thing hasn’t changed yet. Manchester City always find it difficult to beat Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad. Brazilian forward Richarlison have been in the headlines already. His back volley against Burnley is already in contention for the season’s best goal. Now, Chelsea will face Fulham on 30th August. Spurs will face Bournemouth in their next match tomorrow.
