Raphael Varane suffers fresh hamstring injury blow

Man Utd defender Raphael Varane has suffered a fresh hamstring injury blow during the Nations League group stage against Denmark. Being prone to injury is concerning for the 4 times UCL winner especially when the world cup is just a few months away.

The French international joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid but with huge expectations. He was thought to be the reliable partner for Maguire who went through a rough patch of form right from the start of the season.

What happened to Varane?

The Frenchman missed 15 games due to muscular problems, and last night it happened again. Varane has been taken off before half time which later was known to be a hamstring issue.

Les Bleus medical team reported to the press about his injury and quoted,
“Raphael has a muscular problem behind the thigh. He felt some pain. He’s also going to take medical exams.”

His substitution somehow made things easy for Denmark. Taking the advantage of the scenario Andreas Cornelius struck Les Bleus twice after coming off the bench to secure a 2-1 comeback. No one has anticipated this comeback and for fans, it was a shocking loss.

Varane may not feature in any nations league match, but with the world cup right in sight he should stay back and try to recover in the best way possible. His fitness is important for both Les Blues and especially for Ten Hag’s Man Utd.

Varane and his injury woes

Varane is regarded as United’s best central defender. The French international has a commanding presence, but his injury record has been a concern for the managers he played for.

Ten Hag plans to partner him with his new signing, which potentially should be Ajax’s Jurrien Timber. As promising as the strategy seems it may also not work out if the World Cup winner will have continuous fitness issues.

Varane’s career is nothing less than a dream but this season at Man Utd things haven’t worked out for him. He recorded less than 30 appearances for the first time since the 2013/14 campaign. Another reason for his slow start could be the conditions of the premier league.

A lot of new transfers especially in the premier league take some time to adjust to the league. Varane has spent a good amount of time playing in La Liga and certain adjustments for the game will surely take time.
