Arsenal demanding £30 million for Aaron Ramsdale

Tottenham

Arsenal are going to sign David Raya soon on permanent transfer. They will need to pay £27 million for Spaniard to Brentford. Aaron Ramsdale has been Mikel Arteta’s backup keeper ever since Raya arrived at North London. England international is not happy at all and wants to move away from the Emirates. However Arsenal are not convinced to let Ramsdale go if their conditions are not met by any club. Premier League side who was interested in Ramsdale are shocked by the price demanded by Gunners.

Why are Arsenal not in rush to sell Ramsdale

The Gunners signed Ramsdale in 2021 from Sheffield United for £30 million. After two successful seasons Ramsdale had a very tough recent season. Arsenal signed David Raya on loan from Brentford last season. At the time of Raya’s arrival it was believed that Arteta will use both keepers will get equal chances. However Raya’s great performances impressed Arteta very much. It was not long before Ramsdale fell out of favour and lost his place as a regular starter. In 2023/24 season Ramsdale only made 11 appearances across all competitions. The English keeper kept 3 clean sheets in those appearances.

Arsenal are reported to sign a homegrown keeper in the upcoming window. However that keeper would be club’s third choice. Raya who will be announced as permanent Arsenal player soon is expected to start as first choice in next season as well. Arteta wants Ramsdale to stay as second choice keeper as he wants to have two top quality keepers available.

Newcastle United were interested to sign Ramsdale. However they are not willing to pay the price demanded by Arsenal. The Magpies have now switched their attention on James Trafford. According to Football Insider, Arsenal are demanding £30 million for Ramsdale which is the same price they paid to sign him three years ago. Despite many claiming that the price is high, the Gunners have no intention in reducing the price. If no club is willing to pay the demanded price, Arsenal have no problem in keeping the English keeper as their backup. Ramsdale who is currently called by Gareth Southgate to represent England in Euros has contract with Gunners until 2026.

What Ramsdale said about his situation

Aaron Ramsdale is called by England national team and is training with the squad in Germany. Gareth Southgate included Ramsdale in 26 men squad. However Ramsdale will be a backup keeper as Jordon Pickford has been England’s regular starter for quite a while now. The Everton keeper has been doing a great job under Southgate. Ramsdale took time to share about what’s happening in his life recently.

Ramsdale said that it was a very tough season for him. He said he is not willing to spent another season like this and with this we can conclude that the English keeper wants to leave Emirates.

“No footballer wants to not play. I’ve had a tough year personally not playing and I never want to do that again” – Aaron Ramsdale on his recent season with Arsenal.

Ramsdale then went on to talk about the upcoming Euros. He said that he is very happy and it is the greatest honour to play with England national team badge on chest. The 26 year old keeper is very happy with Jordon Pickford and hopes that he does well and helps England win the tournament. Ramsdale is very happy to be at the England camp and also with Gareth Southgate. He said he is willing to do whatever Southgate demands from him and is hoping to make all of the England fans happy. If Ramsdale gets an opportunity he may use that to gain attention from more clubs to go after him in summer transfer window.
