Could Sheikh Jassim takeover Liverpool if Man United offer falls?

Sheikh Jassim remains one of the leading candidates to take over Manchester United. But could he bid for Liverpool if his efforts to take control at Old Trafford fail? The Qatari businessman is a forerunner in the Manchester Saga since the board announced they are seeking ‘strategic alternatives‘ last November. Now, even after 10 months, it is still unknown that who could become the next owner of United.

However, Sheikh Jassim is competing with a joint bid of Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. They have made a bid for majority share as well. Besides this, there are a few proposals for minority shares as well on the table. The Daily Mail claimed on Saturday that the Glazers are planning to take the club off the market entirely. The fact that no bidders have reached their reported £10 billion asking price is a major cause of this.

Could Sheikh Jassim takeover Liverpool?

In November, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), owners of the Liverpool football club announced that they are open to welcome any investor into the club. Though, John Henry, principle owner of The Reds, ruled out full sale of the club. He stated that Liverpool were in talks with possible investors, but any outcome of those talks ‘won’t be a sale‘.

The Qatari investors were linked with the takeover bid of Liverpool. Though, Sheikh Jassim has never been associated in any reports. Jassim even claims to be a Manchester United fanboy since his childhood.

Therefore, it seems unlikely that Sheikh Jassim will submit a bid to buy Liverpool instead of Manchester United. Though, according ESPN journalist Mark Ogden, Qataris can submit a bid for rival clubs like Tottenham. The ENIC group are their current owners.
