Liverpool youngster could be given a chance in the first team under Arne Slot

With Jurgen Klopp set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, Arne Slot could be taking over the managerial duties at Anfield. This will not only be a fresh start for the squad but will also be an opportunity for players to make it to the first team. Moreover, Arne Slot’s style of play will surely be different than that of Klopp’s. Therefore, there will be players who could get opportunities to prove themselves in the Liverpool shirt. One young player who could get a chance under Slot is Sepp van den Berg. The 22-year-old is on loan at Bundesliga club, Mainz 05 from Liverpool. Although it is not known whether Slot and Van den Berg have crossed paths, with both being Dutch they will surely be aware of each other.

Will Van den Berg step up at Liverpool under Arne Slot?

Although the 22-year-old did not get a chance in the first team under Jurgen Klopp, he has developed his stock while being on loan. This has been the defenders best loan spell yet. Furthermore, he is seen as a top defender in the Bundesliga. With Liverpool’s injury issues and other problems in their defence, the youngster could get a chance to perform in the first team. Currently, the Bundesliga club are hoping to keep Van den Berg for another season. Although they may want to sign him permanently, Mainz 05 won’t be able to afford him. Additionally, even if Van den Berg returns, there is no guarantee of the game time he will get.

While speaking about the future, the 22-year-old said,

If I go back to Liverpool, they might want me to stay. If I see that I won’t get much game time, then I might choose to leave. It’s really important to me that I play.”

Moreover, Van den Berg said that he thinks he’s doing well and that he will be able to handle playing at Liverpool. However, there is no confirmation yet about what could happen with Sepp van den Berg in the upcoming summer window.
