Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag backs €40m star defender

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag backs his €40m defender Raphael Varane. United manager said that Raphael is still a very important player of the squad. There were some reports suggesting that there is a fall-out between the player and manager. Though, the Frenchman is a regular bench player now with Harry Maguire starting ahead of him. The Dutch manager clearly said that he does not prefer Raphael at left-centre back position. Owing to this, it led to the claims that the defender is not happy with his situation at Manchester. Moreover, there were reports of exchange of words between the two but Ten Hag refused to make any comment on this topic.

Erik said that he has two fantastic players in the squad as Varane and Maguire but he can only choose one for right centre-back role. He told Manutd.com,

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s rumours. Very important player, but there’s internal competition and there should be at a top club, as we are.”

And when you decide on two players who do brilliant – Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire – you also have to make a choice for that position.”

Nevertheless, the former World Cup winner has had a tough time at United. He is currently behind the likes of Evans, Maguire and Victor Lindelof in the pecking order. Moreover, Ten Hag used Luke Shaw in the heart of the backline at times over him. Though, clubs like Bayern Munich are said to be speculating a move for him. Furthermore, Saudi sides are also keen on the French international. if the situations at Old Trafford will not look to get smooth, Raphael varane could consider an exit in the winter transfer.
