West Ham have a new manager for next season

After David Moyes‘ announcement about his departure from West Ham United, the club began to find potential managerial options to replace him. Moyes and West Ham parted ways mutually. The Scottish manager said that moving away from West Ham was the right decision for him as well as for the club.

Julen Lopetegui has taken over as the West Ham manager and will begin working from 1st July. However, he has already started working towards strengthening the squad. Lopetegui is keen on signing a few deals this summer window. Although Davis Moyes wasn’t bad with the Hammers, the fans were eager to see the club play attacking football. There is no guarantee that Lopetegui will give the fans what they want but his tactics are a level higher than Moyes’.

Julen Lopetegui’s targets for the upcoming transfer window

West Ham’s midfield issues will have to be looked upon in the summer window. One player Lopetegui will give a fair chance to is Flynn Downes. The midfielder could be given a shot to prove himself under Lopetegui. The English footballer did well at Southampton. Moreover, with Southampton stepping up to the Premier League, Downes now has two Premier League clubs watching him.

Although Areola has been great, the Hammers are keen on signing Wes Foderingham after his contract with Sheffield United expires. Foderingham might love a move to West ham keeping in mind Sheffield United will play Championship football next season. Additionally, West Ham will have to focus on keeping their important players amidst interest from other clubs. West Ham’s forward, Michael Antonio, was brilliant this season. The Jamaican international scored six goals and gave two assists in 26 Premier League appearances.

West Ham regret a big transfer they made last summer

One player who would have been key for West Ham’s squad is Declan Rice. The Hammers let go of the England international last summer. Rice went to Arsenal for a record-breaking fee of £105 million. Although the fans initially believed he was not worth that amount, the midfielder proved himself worthy. The 25-year-old added seven goals and eight assists to his name in the Premier League in his first season at the Emirates. The Englishman’s first season with the Gunners was incredible. Although Rice was profitable for the Hammers, having him in the squad would be a boost for the club. However, the club are on a hunt for midfielders, who can help strengthen the squad. Furthermore, West Ham have already opened talks for a few players on their target list.

Signings that could take place under Julen Lopetegui

According to reports, West Ham are eyeing Wolves’ Max Kilman. The 27-year-old defender is a star player for Wolves. He scored 2 goals and was present in all Premier League games this season. Furthermore, the Hammers are interested in Pedro Goncalves. The Sporting midfielder has 76 goals and 51 assists in 178 games across all competitions. Goncalves could be a threat to other Premier League clubs if he moves to West Ham. Moreover, his partnership with Jarrod Bowen could be magnificent. However, buying players is not the only situation for the Hammers this summer. The club will also have to earn profit by selling some of their players to stay within the Premier League’s financial rules.
