Arsenal will be looking to keep William Saliba off the transfer window in summer after Real Madrid preparing for a move.
William Saliba to Bernabeu
Arsenal will now try to keep Saliba at Emirates after reports of Real Madrid willing to sign their star defender. They may have to fight hard for one of their best players coming summer.
The Gunners have struggled to make any new signings in January. They’re are now worried about the summer transfer window. They may loose one of their most talented players in the next window.
They failed to make the most of the winter transfer market, making zero signings. Mikel Arteta’s side, despite being desperate for a striker, couldn’t sign one player. They’re facing attacking issues for a while now, with Kai Havertz being the only centre-forward option.
Arteta’s team were already struggling in front of the goal when everyone was fit. With Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus ruled out for the season, the situation has worsened. Saka will be out for at least two months and may return in March. And now Gabriel Martinelli has also picked up a hamstring injury.
Now, Mikel Arteta has to compete with what he started the season with. There is no going back now and making changes. He has to fight with the current group of players at his disposal until the end of the season. He has to find a way to keep tight with the Premier League leaders Liverpool.
William Saliba, Jorginho and Tierney update
The north London side has managed to keep hold of Kieran Tierney until the end of the campaign. Arteta wants to have depth at full-back as of this season.
Jorginho will also be staying and will likely leave in the summer this year.
Arsenal may have to compete to hold some of their talented players in the summer transfer window. As rumours have that Real Madrid will be trying to land William Saliba. The France international has become one of the best CB’s in Europe. Los Blancos will be looking for options to find replacement for Antonio Rudiger.
RMC Sport reported that Spanish giants Real Madrid will be making a move for William Saliba in summer. Although the Gunners will surely try to rule out their move with a huge asking price. The French centre-back is currently under contract until 2027. So the English side will look to keep a hold of him, especially if Saliba wants to stay.
Gary Neville on Saliba’s game against Newcastle United
The Frenchman has been impressive since the start of the season. But his poor performance against Newcastle United has been highlighted by Neville. The defender had a off game in the Carabao Cup. He struggled to deal with Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.
Speaking on Sky Sports during the game, Neville said: “It’s all about Isak. He is messing the Arsenal centre backs about.
“Look at him (Isak) against Saliba, he (Saliba) thinks he has got in front and he pops it round the corner. What a strike it is, and a piece of good fortune because the pass ins’t into him and it then falls to Murphy. But he has Gabriel and William on toast.
He added, “I have never seen Saliba so ruffled ever. Gordon and Isak are in his head.
“I have never seen Gabriel and William so uncomfortable and that is because of the quality of Alexander Isak.
“They normally bully teams but they couldn’t handle the Newcastle front three.”
Author’s Opinion
With injuries to Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger, Madrid are out of senior player options in the defense.
David Alaba just returning from injury, hasn’t started since his returning from injury. He made few late cameos but hasn’t played full 90 minutes.
Real Madrid will certainly try to bring William Saliba to the Bernabeu.
