Jurgen Klopp speaks up on the failed transfers of Caicedo and Lavia in the summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently opens up on the failed pursuits of Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo. Klopp & Liverpool missed the signings of Caicedo and Lavia during the summer transfer. Both the midfielders rejected Liverpool and ultimately joined Chelsea. The Reds were in a desperate need of a defensive midfielder after Fabinho left for Saudi. They even offered a sum of £111m for the Ecuadorian. However, both the transfers have not paid off to Chelsea as they stand twelfth in Premier League table.

The summer we had, we had a few strange things happen in the transfer market but here, between us, I can say ‘My god, were we lucky, eh?’”

We didn’t know that in that moment and it didn’t feel like it in that moment, but yeah, I’m really happy that it worked out, but you never know before.

We obviously realised that other central defensive midfielders don’t want to join Liverpool, you see what happens, and then we found (Wataru) Endo. He’s an exceptional player.

Thank god we looked about things twice and had a bit of a deeper look and it was clear we want this boy. He wanted to come definitely and that helps.”

Wataru Endo has been a decent signing for Liverpool so far. The Japanese was firstly only a starter for Europa League campaigns but is now starting in the Premier League as well. Meanwhile, Lavia is yet to make a start for his life at Chelsea after injury. On the other hand, Caicedo has not been much impressive as well with his performances in the recent weeks.
