Chelsea were linked with PSG captain Marrquinhos over the summer. But Marquinhos has now revealed that PSG blocked the transfer approach from Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
Marquinhos is a key figure for PSG and leads the team from the back. When Thiago Silva moved to Chelsea Marquinhos was named as the club captain by PSG. He has been marshalling the defensive line once again since the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea’s manager Thomas Tuchel has previously worked with Marquinhos during his time in Paris. Thomas Tuchel was looking to reunite the Brazilian centre back duo of Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, just like during his time in Paris. But the approach was very quickly blocked by the French giants.
What Marquinhos said about the Chelsea approach over the summer?
Marquinhos when asked about the transfer approach, told Le Parisien: “No! It wasn’t even an offer. In fact, the club blocked talks straight away. It shows the faith they have in me.”
He added, “It is an honour for a club like PSG to put such faith in me. The fact that others are interested in me means I am doing well.” “It gives me the motivation to go on, boost my training sessions and play even better. Paris and PSG are the only things on my mind.”
After the sale of Kurt Zooma to West Ham United, Chelsea were also heavily linked with Sevilla centre half Jules Kounde over the summer. But refused to meet his £67m release clause. The European Champions are once again linked to the centre half and may look to sign the French defender in the January transfer window.
Chelsea have the best defensive record in the league and have only conceded three goals in the Premier League. And are also top of the table with 22 points.
