Update on Pep Guardiola’s future at the Etihad

Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola was heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich after the announcement of Thomas Tuchel’s departure. According to sources, he will not be going to Bayern Munich, however, his future with Manchester City is uncertain. Guardiola’s contract with Manchester City is valid until June 2025. The Treble winners will surely want Guardiola to stay but the final decision remains in his own hands. Moreover, Man City won’t put pressure on the manager to renew his contract for the next few months. The Spaniard spent three years with Bayern Munich and led them to three Bundesliga wins. However, a move to the Allianz Arena is unlikely to take place for Pep Guardiola at the moment.

Pep Guardiola has led Manchester City to 16 trophies

Manchester City have won 16 trophies under Pep Guardiola. This trophy haul includes one Champions League, five Premier League titles, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, two FA Cup wins, four Carabao Cups, and two FA Community Shields. Moreover, the Blues are also in the title race this season, which could be their fourth successive Premier League title. Pep has won 73% of his 468 games as the Manchester City boss. Although they got out of the Champions League this season, they still have their chance of winning the FA Cup. The Blues will face Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley on 25th May. Man City managed to defeat Chelsea in a thrilling 1-0 win in the FA Cup semi-final.

While speaking about his side’s performance, Guardiola said,

“Chelsea had incredible transitions and controlled the ball well. We lost some easy balls because we were tired. Players made an incredible effort.”

The City manager further added,

“What they have done today was one of the greatest things I have seen in a group of players [after] 120 minutes against Madrid, [with their] physicality and the emotion.”

Additionally, Guardiola’s ability to improve his player’s abilities with the right tactics has been Manchester City’s strength.
