Aston Villa injury update prior to Europa Conference League clash

Aston Villa

The Aston Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez was out in the game against Brighton last weekend due to an injury struggle. Emi Martinez injured his thigh in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea. Although the Argentinian has begun training in the last few days, the Aston Villa manager is hoping he can play against Olympiacos in the second leg of the Conference League semi-finals. Villa will be going to Athens to play at the Karaiskakis Stadium. The Villans are currently facing a 4-2 deficit after a disappointing first leg at Villa Park. However, Martinez’s return will be a huge boost for them as they will be looking to turn things around. Martinez trained before the game against Brighton but was not 100 percent fit. Therefore, Villa’s second-choice goalkeeper, Robin Olsen played at the Amex stadium.

Aston Villa’s brilliant season under Unai Emery can become even better

Aston Villa are currently fourth on the Premier League table. Moreover, if they manage to defeat Liverpool this weekend in the Premier League, they will secure their top four-spot. This also means they will be part of the Champions League next season. Besides this, the Villans could make it to the Conference League finals if they manage to turn around the 4-2 aggregate. Despite this, Unai Emery has been very proud of his side’s performance throughout the season.

The Villa boss said,

“To take experiences in Europe with Aston Villa, with some players who have experience and some who don’t have, is really exciting and I am so proud of our process here and now competing.”

Emery further added,

“Trying to be contenders to get to the end in the semi-final and then the final, adding more experience and more possibilities to win a trophy.”

Additionally, Emery recently signed a new contract which will keep him at Villa Park until 2027. The Aston Villa fans were happy with this decision and they should be excited for what’s to come in the future.
