Pundit quite impressed with Liverpool youngster’s performance

Pundit Ronnie Whelan is quite impressed with Liverpool youngster Ben Doak’s performance against German side Gruether Furth in a pre-season friendly.

While covering the game for Liverpool’s official website, Whelan claimed that it was one sided affair in the first half, but then Furth made a brilliant comeback. Reds manager Jurgen Klopp once again played two separate teams in each half.

The German started the match with a strong eleven which included Scottish winger Ben Doak. The 17-year-old featured in few first-team games, coming off the bench five occasions last season.

The Scott has been regular in first-team training sessions for last 12 months. Doak will now emerge as one of the legit option for Klopp going into the next season.

In the first-half, Doak started at the right-side of the attack which consist of Luis Diaz and Diego Jota. Liverpool showed a dominant display in the first-half, but then something happened that anybody wouldn’t expect.

However, Pundit Ronnie Whelan praised Doak for his performance and said :-

“Looking at him I said in the commentary I was doing [he reminded me of] the old Celtic great Jimmy Johnstone, the winger and the great winger that was.

“He was small and so, so quick. He’s so quick! He’s away from the defending. Over three or four yards he’s away and he was gone.

“He did this same thing in the second half he was away, but he just didn’t play the pass. That has to come into his game as he gets older and more streetwise.

“But his trickery… He has a lot to offer the kid. All defenders will be scared stiff if he comes on the pitch or he starts.”
