Here we have with us the Manchester City player ratings as their winning streak came to a halt against Southampton. City’s 12-match winning streak was ended by Southampton. They brought something extra to their game and pulled off a draw against City. Man City already had a greater lead in the points table and hence this draw was affordable for the Citizens.
Southampton had 3 shots on target whereas City had 5 shots on target. As usual, City saw so much of the ball that they had 75% possession but failed to create clear chances. Southampton have avoided defeat against Manchester City twice this season and that has happened for the first time since 2002-03.
Southampton took the lead in the 7th minute after a great linkup play between Kyle Walker-Peters and Nathan Redmond followed by a beautiful outside-of-the-foot finish from Walker-Peters. City could have equalized the score in the 39th minute. Foden cut the ball back towards Sterling whose tap-in was well saved by Forster.
Manchester City equalized with a brilliant free-kick that found the head of Laporte who scored a header. City knocked on Southampton’s goal several times but were either unlucky or could not get past Southampton’s motivated defense. City hit post 2-3 times but would have scored such chances on a normal day. In addition, Pep Guardiola became the fastest manager to reach 500 points in the Premier League.

Ederson – 6/10
Could have done very little to save the Southampton goal and similar for a few other attempts.
Kyle Walker – 6/10
Did well to get forward in the first half but could not find anyone with his crossing. However, he got better after the break to help City.
Ruben Dias – 6/10
Had to sit back a little as he was passed by a few times by the Southampton attack. Nevertheless did well to support his team to equalize the score.
Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
Was very good in the first half unlike a few of his teammates and also got the big goal to level the score.
Joao Cancelo – 6/10
Bad decisions in the final third and poor crossing in the first half from him. However, he seemed to have to find his rhythm back in the second half.
Rodri – 6/10
Was unable to stop a counter-attacking Southampton. Nevertheless, he helped City to put pressure on Southampton in the latter half of the game.
Kevin De Bruyne – 7/10
Drove the game for Manchester City as usual and created many chances to score. Moreover, got an important assist with a brilliant free-kick.
Bernardo Silva – 6/10
Did not have a great game as he usually has but was constantly trying to get City back into the game.
Raheem Sterling – 3/10
Sterling missed an important sitter that could have been City’s goal. Furthermore, he also did not have a good game overall as he was often not in the best position and made wrong decisions.
Phil Foden – 7/10
Did everything he could to provide an assist for Sterling but Sterling had other ideas. He was also a constant threat to the Southampton defense in the second half.
Jack Grealish – 6/10
Could have gotten replaced just after 45 minutes but started to play his game in the second 45 minutes.
Substitutes
Gabriel Jesus – 7/10
A great improvement on Sterling as he brought the necessary energy but was unfortunate to hit the post.
