Transfer news expert Ben Jacobs gives insight of Newcastle United’s scheme of plans for January transfer window as they look to spend big.

Speaking on the Debrief podcast, Jacobs suggests that the Magpies are currently doing well in the Premier League. Newcastle returned to Champions League this season as they take on PSG on October 4. It will be their first home game in the competition in last 20 years.

With help of their wealthy owners, they brought the likes of Bruno Guimares, Anthony Gordan and Sandro Tonali. However, they’ll be very much active in January transfer window, as per reports.

However, Jacobs suggest that Newcastle need to cautious of Financial Fair Play due to the model they have in St. James Park. The Expert did suggest that Eddie Howe might go for defender in the winter transfer window.

Discussing Newcastle’s transfer plan, Ben Jacobs said :-

“If they’re going to target someone it’s probably going to be another centre-back.

“They could do with cover for Sven Botman. Extending Bruno Guimaraes’ contract is naturally important. Could they also look for more goals? That could be a consideration in the summer.

“But it’s important to understand that Newcastle can’t break the bank because of Financial Fair Play. Just because they got into Europe once they can’t necessarily just change their model.

“Now that they have Champions League football, players will want higher wages, but Newcastle have done well to ensure they don’t have one stand-out earner. They have to be conservative, and that’s why I also sense they’ll be in for a quieter January.”
