Chelsea inch closer to signing Christopher Nkunku

tennis player

RB Leipzig and Chelsea have an agreement in principle for the sale of Nkunku in the 2023-24 season

According to an article from the Atheltic, Nkunku has decided to leave Leipzig for Chelsea in 2023. According to the report, Nkunku has signed a ‘pre-contract agreement’ with the club. Moreover, Chelsea are ready to pay the full €60 million release clause of Nkunku to acquire his services. The club are ready to pay more now to avoid an all-out battle for the player in the next transfer window.

Nkunku has had six goals in eight appearances for Leipzig this season. Nkunku who arrived from the PSG academy to Leipzig back in 2019 has a contract with the club till 2026. The contract also includes a €60 million release clause. In principle, Chelsea have agreed to trigger the release clause to facilitate the move of Nkunku the next summer. However, Sky Sports claims that the player is still uncertain about the future and hasn’t made any decision regarding it.

Chelsea are rebuilding and rehashing their attack. The Blues sold Timo Werner to Leipzig last summer. Moreover, Romelu Lukaku also departed Chelsea to join Inter Milan on loan. To bridge this gap, Chelsea signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and Aubameyang from Barcelona. The new signings have performed well so far, with four goals from Sterling. Aubameyang too scored on his League debut for Chelsea against Crystal Palace. In addition to these players, the clubs want to sign Nkunku as well. This seems like a good prospect considering that there remains a lot of uncertainty over the futures of some players. Christian Pulisic might depart next year amidst interest from AC Milan and Juventus. Moreover, Hakim Ziyech might depart in the next transfer window as well.
