Brennan Johnson’s signing to Tottenham Hotspur was a masterstroke

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspurs’ chairman, Daniel Levy, was on hand to help the club sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest on the last day of last year’s summer window. The club spent a fee of £47.5 million for the winger. Johnson was a significant player for Nottingham Forest last season. Moreover, his contribution was massive in helping the club to stay away from relegation. It was a surprise to all that the club chose to sell Johnson, after what was an exceptional season for him. However, it was later understood that Forest had to balance their funds and therefore, sold the Welshman. Forest still did not manage to follow the Financial Fair Play rules and recently had to face a four-point deduction in the Premier League. As a result, it appears that selling a star player like Johnson did not do much to help Forest avoid punishment.

Brennan Johnson’s performance for Tottenham Hotspur

Johnson’s best form hasn’t been seen at Tottenham Hotspur yet, however, his performance has shown that he has room for improvement. The 22-year-old has four goals and six assists to his name this season. The Welshman’s development will frustrate Forest as they could have kept him or sold him for a larger fee. However, Tottenham have highly benefitted from this transfer done by the genius chairman. Moreover, the Spurs manager has faith in the 22-year-old and believes that he will make massive progress soon.

Postecoglou said,

“We’ve seen elements of his game which are very, very exciting and we’ve got to get him to do that more and believe in himself more.”

The Spurs manager further added,

“I have full faith that it will come. I’ve seen that in him. But like any other process with young players and young people, they have got to get to that space. You try to help them to get there as quickly as possible but sometimes it takes a little bit longer.”

Johnson has just begun his career at Tottenham and the fans can surely be excited about what’s to come from the Welshman.
