The FA is going to launch a new investigation into Sandro Tonali betting scandal. FA will re-investigate whether Tonali broke the betting rules or not. The Italian is cooperating with the FA amid fears of facing new sanctions. The 23-year old was found guilty by FIGC last week for placing bets on matches while his time in Serie A. Newcastle United signed him for £52million from AC Milan. Though, he is out for rest of the season and Euro 2024 should Italy qualifies. Tonali made 12 appearances for the Magpies before facing a 10-month ban. Though, he made a really quick impression in the Premier League by scoring on his debut match.

Moreover, he was the first choice for Eddie Howe alongside Joelinton and Guimares. However, the hopes of Toons outran when he and Aston Villa man Nicolo Zaniolo were sent home from international duty in October. Tonali admits to have a gambling problem and agreed to a treatment programme consisting of eight months of rehab activities. Speaking about the midfielder, Howe said on Friday,

“Well he (Sandro) is training.”

“He has started that lonely process although he is with his team-mates. We have played so many games at the moment a lot of sessions have been individual.

“But he has started that journey into the ten months so it is a mental test for him.

“Sandro has to try to come through that and come through it a better player.

“It is definitely our objective as coaches is to try to help him. But it is going to be difficult for him.”
