Former Reds Steve Nicol suggests Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch lacks quality as he struggled in German top-flight last season.

Speaking to ESPN, Nicol spoke about the Dutch midfielder as Liverpool have reportedly opened talks over a deal with Bayern. Gravenberch might end up at Mersyside in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old struggled to get regular game-time at Bayern last season. Hence, he could be on his way to Premier League in the last couple of days.

BBC Sports claims that talks are going on between both the clubs. However, Former Liverpool footballer Steve Nicol is not big fan of the Dutch midfielder.

Gravenberch joined Bayern last summer from Ajax FC, but only made three appearances for them. Hence Nicol believes that he would struggle to make an instant impact at Liverpool.

Nicol discussed about the 21-year-old and said :-

“I don’t know. I understand he’s 21. And I understand the very point we’ve just made that Klopp and his culture and his club makes players better.

“But my worry would be, why did this guy not play more last season when Bayern Munich were probably the worst version of Bayern Munich for the last decade, why he didn’t get on the field more? You’re talking about three or four appearances. That’s the worrying thing to me.”

Liverpool have completely shifted gears in this current campaign. After first three games, Reds are currently playing with a complete difference emotion.

Looking at Gravenberch’s age, he has time to develop his attributes at English top-flight if he joins Liverpool today.
