SC Freiburg of the German Bundesliga has started negotiations with Franck Mbella-Etouga of Asante Kotoko.

Asante Kotoko is a club from Ghana. They are based in the Ashanti region of the African country. They are also called the “Porcupine Warriors”, and play in the Ghana Premier League. Kumasi based Kessben FM have reported on the transfer of Franck Mbella-Etouga to Freiburg.

Who is  Franck Mbella-Etouga

Mbella-Etouga hails from Cameroon. The forward began his professional career at the Nkufo Academy, which is run by Blaise Nkufo. In 30 games while in the academy, Etouga scored 61 goals and contributed 13 assists.  In 2020, he joined Fortuna de Mfou. There he contributed nine assists and eight goals in 21 appearances, helping the team finish third in the Cameroon Elite One League.

Mbella-Etouga later joined Asante Kotoko. He was a star at that level, and became a deadly goalscorer in Ghanian League. The 21-year-old came within one goal of leading the 2021–2022 Ghana Premier League in goals scored, but Yaw Annor ultimately prevailed. Franck Etouga scored 21 goals for Kotoko, Yaw Annor won the award in the final game of the season.

Although his goals fell short of winning him the title of goal king, they played a significant part in Asante Kotoko’s championship victory. The team concluded the season as the top goal-scoring team with 48 goals.

It has led to interest from European clubs. Freiburg had a wonderful season last time out as they finished sixth. They will be looking to bolster their forward line. In other news, SC Freiburg has acquired Ritsu Doan, a winger for Japan’s national team, on a long-term contract from PSV. With these additions, the Breisgau-Brasilianer will aim to breach the top 4  of the league next season.
