Liverpool’s defensive line not functioning well this season

Former Reds Steve Nicol claims Liverpool’s defensive line is not functioning well despite their winning run in this current campaign.

The Mersyside club have kept just one clean sheet so far this season due to their defensive flaws. However, Allison Becker has been instrumental in front of goal for Reds.

Speaking on the Aldo Meets Podcast, Steve Nicol highlighted three players in Liverpool’s defensive line who have been complete disaster this season. The pundit pointed out Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate for not performing well despite their good old reputation.

Manager Jurgen Klopp should act fast as defence has been a main concern for Reds for last couple of campaigns. Liverpool at times become quite volatile at the back and concede easy goals in the early minutes of the match.

Nicol spoke about the issues and said :-

“The defence has gone from being totally rock solid to being vulnerable. The time it has been vulnerable has lasted two long, and you have to start looking at the person in the jersey. As good as Liverpool are going forwards, you can’t win the Premier League or anything else if you have to score three or four goals because you’ll lose two or three. Konate, Van Dijk and Robertson on paper, what is the problem? But they’re not performing the way they used to. I’m not saying one has to go or they all need to go. But Jurgen Klopp now has to decide if someone has to go or if he will fix it.”

Liverpool might have to bring defensive reinforcement in the January transfer window.
