Manchester United should consider McClaren as interim manager

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag faced additional inquiries about his future following a predictable loss at Crystal Palace. Concerningly, this match was to be the easiest among their final four league matches, with the looming prospect of the FA Cup final.

A victory at Wembley could salvage the season for Erik ten Hag, but questions arise regarding whether he’s the best choice for Manchester United. Former player Michael Owen favors the notion of an interim manager.

Following Manchester United’s 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, Michael Owen and Paul Scholes expressed their views to Premier League Productions. Owen emphasized the need for a short-term change.

Acknowledging the limited options for a short-notice coaching change, Owen suggests that Steve McClaren, a member of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff, could take over. He argues that McClaren’s influence, despite being on the reserve, is not part of the problem.

What did Owen say about McClaren and Manchester United?

Owen stated:

“We’ve played under Steve McClaren. There’s no way his fingerprints are anywhere near that team. He is a brilliant coach and that team is not being coached at all. No way.”

“There is no way on earth he has got anything to do with that team. It’s impossible. That team(Manchester United) is absolutely clueless, right the way through it.”

“Steve McClaren is a top operator and I can only think other people are coaching the first team and he’s a bystander.”
