Arne Slot will be joining Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp’s legendary 9 year stint at Anfield. The Reds are preparing for the post-Klopp era with multiple players and staff leaving.

Arne Slot has confirmed that he will be the new Liverpool Manager. Slot wants to bring Mats Wieffer alongside him to Anfield. Liverpool will be very active during the summer transfer window as many key players shall be leaving.

Who is Arne Slot?

Arne Slot started his professional football career as a 17-year old midfielder at PEC Zwolle. He went on to win the Eerste Divisie in 2002. Subsequently, Slot played for NAC Breda and Rotterdam. He returned to PEC Zwolle and retired, not before winning another Eerste Divisie in 2012.

Initially, Slot started his managerial career at PEC Zwolle’s youth academy. Followingly, he worked as an Assistant at Cambuur and later being promoted to Cambuur’s Co-Head Coach.

Then Slot went on to join AZ Alkmaar as an Assistant Manager. Subsequently, the Dutchman was promoted to Alkmaar’s Head Coach succeeding John van den Brom in 2019.

The Dutchman then joined Feyenoord in 2021. Slot won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord in 2022-23, in just one season with the club. Feyenoord are currently 2nd in Eredivisie this campaign with 81 points. They will be finishing behind PSV. Although losing out on the Eredivisie, Slot’s side have already won the KNVB Cup this season.

Liverpool’s locker room reshuffle!

Joel Matip is leaving Anfield as a free agent after the end of his contract this season. Joining him will be Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara. An injury-ridden career denied the Spaniard to live up to his potential at Liverpool. Adrian has discussed of his intentions of moving to LaLiga and he could be leaving The Reds too.

Many coaching staff will also be parting ways with Anfield following Klopp’s exit. Andreas Kornmayer, Pepijn Lijnders, Peter Kraweitz, Vitor Matos, Andreas Schlumberger, Jorge Schmadtke, Jack Robinson and John Achterberg could be leaving The Reds.

Incoming manager Arne Slot will be bringing Ruben Peeters, Etienne Reijen and Sipke Hulshoff along with him at Anfield. Rejien and Hulshoff were Assistant Managers at Feyenoord. Whereas, Peeters has handled the role of Performance Manager at Feyenoord.

Liverpool will be looking to reinforce the team and increase squad depth by buying replacements.

Liverpool ready to pay £34.4 million asking fee for Wieffer?

Mats Wieffer made his professional debut for Jong FC Twente in 2018. Followingly, Wieffer agreed a move to Excelsior in 2020. Feyenoord under Slot signed Wieffer in 2022 on a four-year contract. Wieffer has already been called up by the Oranje during the Euro 2024 qualifiers. The 24-year old midfielder wasn’t named into The Oranje’s Euro 2024 squad over fitness concerns.

Wieffer primarily plays as a defensive midfielder. Despite his defensive abilities, Wieffer has managed to bag 8 G/A in 29 appearances for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie this season.

Slot wants the Dutch midfielder to accompany him to Anfield. The Reds are ready to spend £34.4 million asking fee for the 24-year old midfielder. The Dutchman plays as a classic number 6. Wieffer’s control of the game and versatility makes him a valuable asset for any team. Wieffer could be crucial as a play-breaker and creating turnovers for The Reds to counter attack.

Since Fabinho’s departure, Liverpool haven’t really been able to reinforce their defensive midfield. Wataru Endo’s signing brought joy to Anfield. However, squad depth has to increase if Liverpool want to challenge for the title. Moreover, Alexis Mac Allister is out of position when playing defensively.

Signing Wieffer could be a great option for The Reds. Arne Slot will be hoping Liverpool won’t have any issues spending £34.4 million upon the youngster.

Will Wiefer fit under Arne Slot at Liverpool?

Wiefer has been a joy to watch under Slot at Feyenoord. However, whether the Dutch international is capable of handling the pressure of playing in Europe’s best domestic league remains to be seen.

Players like Antony and Lisandro Martinez who shone under Ten Hag at Ajax in the Eredivisie have failed to replicate their standards in the Premier League.

The Reds will be hoping for Wiefer to find quick form at Anfield and add some much needed squad depth.
