Stefan Bajcetic shines bright for Spain U-21 debut this week

Young and exciting midfielder Stefan Bajcetic shines bright on his Spain U-21 debut against Malta U-21 at Euro U-21 qualifiers.

Bajcetic made his first apperance since March. He made a impressive start last campaign for Liverpool, however it was cut short by a serious adductor injury.

He didn’t even feature for Reds’ pre-season tour of Germany and Singapore. Bajcetic came to full fitness last month as he featured in the bench for the last three games in the Premier League.

Due to his impressive run last campaign, Bajcetic was called for Spain U-21’s squad this month. Manager Santa Denia gave the youngster a opportunity as he came off the bench in the 65th minute of the match against Malta.

He took charges from Rafa Marin as Spain were already four goals up. However, Bajcetic was deployed as a cente-back, rather than his regular midfield role.

Speaking to AS, Denia compared the 18-year-old with Valencia legend Hugo Guillamon, who played as both defender and midfielder in his footballing career. The Coach said:-

“When he played in the youth teams, he played centre-back. I think he can give us alternatives in that position

“It may be like Guillamon in the previous generation, that he can occupy several positions. I have spoken with him and he agrees with that role.”

Stefan Bajcetic is capable of playing as both No.6 and No.8 due to his versatility. He played as a cente-back when arrived at Mersyside in 2020.

He will be looking forward to face his Liverpool teammate Ben Doak as Spain host Scotland on Monday.
