There Is Another Twist In The Jules Kounde Story

The saga of Jules Kounde this summer has been eventful, to say the least. New reports have emerged almost every day, and yet no one can say for sure where the Frenchman will end up.

Jules Kounde has been a top performer for Sevilla in the last few seasons. The defender is a superb dribbler and can fill in at right-back as well. He was courted by the Blues last summer as well. They offered Kurt Zouma as a part of the deal, but a move could not materialize. It was expected that Chelsea would return for him, especially given that they lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Kounde briefly appeared headed for a move to London. Reports suggested that Chelsea and Sevilla had agreed on a €65 million deal. But now, it is Barcelona who are the favourites to sign him. The Spanish club forced their way back into the race after pulling a “financial lever” and getting the funds to close the deal.

The Latest Twist On Kounde

Kounde is reportedly fine with a move to either of the two clubs, but prefers the Blaugrana. Now, apparently, he has a pre-deal for a four-year contract. Spanish news outlets stated late on Sunday that Barcelona and Sevilla had also reached a transfer agreement, with the five-time UCL winners reportedly paying €50 million plus €10 million in add-ons.

A short while later, though, Radioestadio Noche provided a new update on the saga. They said that Sevilla are perplexed by Barcelona’s confidence in signing Kounde, and they have made no official proposal for the centre-back.

This is contrary to the previous reports that the two La Liga clubs have reached an agreement. It also leaves the possibility of the Rojiblancos selling Kounde to Chelsea open.
