According to several reports, Everton are also one of those clubs that registered interest in Owen Wijndal of AZ Alkmaar. The left back enjoyed a stellar season for the club in Eredivisie as he was one of its top performers.
Along with the blue side of Merseyside, many other European giants enquired about the Dutch international. Ajax Amsterdam, another Dutch giant, Sevilla and SSC Napoli also made their interest known.
De Telegraaf states money earned from the Champions League, Ryan Gravenberch’s sale to Bayern Munich and the possible sale of Sebastien Haller to Borussia Dortmund can help Ajax carry out deals for the fullback, Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn and RB Leipzig’s Brian Brobbey.
Ajax making the move ahead of Everton, Sevilla and Napoli
Ajax made substantial progress in signing the full back from AZ. His asking price of €10 million won’t pose much of a problem for them and so will his wages. However, the first wage offer made by them didn’t please the Dutch defender.
Nicolás Tagliafico, the current left back for Ajax opted against staying at the club. Although the club chiefs Gerry Hamstra and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar are working to convince him to stay, he is keen on leaving. The Argentina international has not received concrete interest so far.
It looks like that Ajax are waiting to sign Wijndal after having more clearness in the Tagliafico situation. However, Wijndal, on his part, cannot keep Everton, Napoli and Sevilla, who are the ‘concretely interested clubs’, waiting ‘much longer’.
Additionally, a move away from a Dutch club will help Wijndal and his agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez earn pretty hugely. But that is a possibility if his client is willing to move to Everton, Sevilla or Napoli. However, the rep is willing to give up the high commission so that his client can join Ajax.
