Andy Caroll claims he never wanted to join Liverpool in 2011

Andy Caroll opened about his big money move to Liverpool back in 2011 but he never wanted join the Mersyside club due to some reasons.

Liverpool signed Caroll as well as Luis Suarez in that window after Fernando Torres was sold to Chelsea in that transfer window. The Uruguayan international went on to become a club legend, but the Englishman struggled to find his feet at Anfield.

Liverpool were in a urgent need of reinforcement at up front after loosing Fernando Torres in that transfer window. Hence Andy Caroll and Luis Suarez became a top target for the Mersyside club.

Reds manage to strike a deal for both the strikers with Caroll costing whooping £35 million(BBC). However the English man was not a big think in footballing world during that period.

Andy Caroll was just 22 during that time, but he struggled to find his feet at Anfield. He only managed to score 11 goals in 58 apperances for Reds as he slowly moved on.

He currently plays for French Second division side Ameins as Caroll recently opened about his move to Liverpool back in 2011. Englishman claims he never wanted to join Liverpool and even hoped that he failed the medical.

Caroll opened about his move and said :-

“In fact, I wanted to stay, but from the moment Liverpool made this incredible offer, on the last day of the transfer window, I found myself, without really understanding why, in a helicopter.

“As I was injured, I remember thinking, ‘I hope I fail the medical exam’. Then, to be honest, in hindsight, I think this transfer was a good thing. Because it made me grow out of my comfort zone.”
