Liverpool is willing to buy Levi Colwill next summer from Chelsea

Liverpool

Liverpool are scouring the market for new centre-backs this summer, and they’re still on the trail of a young player they courted last year.

12 months ago, Liverpool strongly linked with a move for Levi Colwill, and they’re still very keen on the £40m defender.

TBR Football understands that Liverpool have remained in contact with Chelsea to let them know that they would happily take Levi Colwill if the Blues had to raise money this summer.

Liverpool spoke with Chelsea last summer, and also in January, about the England international and told on both occasions that the 21-year-old was not available.

TBR understands that Colwill was open to Liverpool’s advances last summer before he signed a new deal with The Blues, but with Chelsea’s ongoing worries over Profit and Sustainability rules they may need to sell players this summer to meet those demands.

Liverpool to buy Levi Colwill to improve the defence next season

The London club are planning on moving on homegrown talents such as Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja and potentially Conor Gallagher but Colwill would also be pure profit on the club’s books due to his academy graduate status.

Chelsea, though, insist that they have never encouraged anyone to make a move for Colwill as he remains a key part of their future.

Liverpool have been on Colwill’s trail for some time now, and for good reason.

Yes, this hasn’t been Colwill’s best season, but he showed last term at Brighton that he has what it takes to be a Premier League star and at the age of just 21, he has lots of room to grow and improve.

Of course, if Colwill does join Liverpool he will be arriving under a new manager, potentially Arne Slot, and after Slot’s fantastic work with the likes of David Hancko at Feyenoord, the Dutchman could be the perfect coach to turn Colwill into a superstar.

Liverpool certainly need defensive reinforcements, and Colwill could be the ideal understudy for Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool will be waiting in the wings if Chelsea do decide to sell Colwill this summer.
