Arsenal Considering Rising Star Benjamin Sesko After He Rejected a Move To Old Trafford

Arsenal

In a surprising turn of events, Benjamin Sesko, one of Europe’s most promising young attackers, has caught the attention of Arsenal. This comes after he turned down an offer from Manchester United. The 20-year-old Slovenian forward has been making waves in European football and is now drawing the interest of the Gunners following his recent move to RB Leipzig.

Sesko’s decision to decline Manchester United’s offer last summer raised eyebrows across the footballing world. Instead of joining the Red Devils, he opted for a transfer to RB Leipzig, which materialized in July 2023. Before his move, Sesko enjoyed a successful season with Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. During that time, he scored an impressive 18 goals in 41 appearances.

Sesko Shines at Leipzig

Since joining RB Leipzig, the young Slovenian has wasted no time in making an impact. Despite not always being in the starting lineup, Sesko has managed to score six times in just 13 games. His noteworthy performances include a crucial late substitute appearance against Manchester City in the Champions League. He also scored a goal in Leipzig’s 3-1 victory over Young Boys on matchday one.

As Sesko continues to impress Leipzig, other top clubs are beginning to take notice. Arsenal, in particular, has deployed scouts to closely monitor his progress in the German top-tier league. The Gunners are showing a keen interest in Sesko and are considering a potential move for the young talent. He has been drawing comparisons with Manchester City’s prolific striker Erling Haaland.

Despite Sesko’s undeniable potential, it’s worth noting that Leipzig has surprisingly valued him at a mere £40 million. AC Milan have also expressed interest in the Slovenian forward, but Arsenal appear confident in its ability to secure Sesko’s signature. Additionally, Sesko boasts an impressive international record. He has scored 9 goals in 24 appearances for the Slovenia national team since making his senior debut in 2021.

Arteta’s options

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, although having options in the striking department, may be tempted to add Sesko to his squad. Eddie Nketiah‘s recent hat-trick in the 5-0 victory over Sheffield United showcased the depth in Arsenal’s attacking options. However, with Sesko emerging as a potential target, the Gunners could reconsider their stance on adding another striker to their ranks.

In addition to Sesko, Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Brentfords Ivan Toney. Toney is set to return from an eight-month ban in January. His impressive goal-scoring record in the Premier League last season has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham.

While Arteta had previously downplayed the need for another striker in January, Sesko’s rapid rise in prominence could prompt a change of plans for Arsenal. His agent, Elvis Basanovic, has confirmed previous discussions with AC Milan regarding Sesko’s potential transfer. Basanovic emphasized that the young star is thriving and continues to grow at RB Leipzig.
