Arsenal are scouting everywhere in order to bolster their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Gunners want to add depth to many of their departments, with midfield being one. As a result, Arsenal are being linked with many players in that position across Europe. However, the rumours are now emerging from South America. La Lazio Siamo Noi claim that Arsenal are closely monitoring Palmeiras midfielder Danilo.
The report coincidences with Calciomercato’s, who suggested in early March that Arsenal are tracking the Brazilian midfielder. The Italian outlet further revealed that Danilo had a price tag of £17 million. The midfield prodigy has now caught the eye of the Gunners, who are planning on a move. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has emphasized this season that they are lacking a real depth in the middle of the park.
Moreover, Granit Xhaka’s future is up in the air after a move to AS Roma didn’t go through last summer. Mohamed Elneny has a contract which expires this summer, and is anticipating an exit as well. Therefore, the inexperienced Sambi Lokonga is the only other option alongside Thomas Partey. Arsenal could be in real trouble if the don’t add to their midfield in the summer window.
Arsenal receive boost as the midfielder is available for reduced price
Though Calciomercato wrote that Danilo could cost around £17 million, a new report from the same outlet now suggests that there is alteration. Palmeiras now want a fee in the range of £12 million to £17 million for Danilo. This could be a huge boost for Arsenal who are keeping a tab on the situation. Calciomercato also asserted that the ‘most concrete contacts’ for the midfielder are coming from the Premier League.
Danilo is certainly on Arsenal’s radar who fancy a move. Moreover, the Gunners’ technical director Edu has a vast knowledge of the Brazilian market which could be an advantage here. Furthermore, there are chances as well that Edu knows a thing or two about Danilo’s game. Nonetheless, there is a lot of hype around the Palmeiras youngster in his native country.
The 20-year-old defensive midfielder helped Palmeiras win their 24th Campeonato Paulista after beating Sao Paulo. Danilo has so far made an impressive 97 appearances for Palmeiras, rising through their youth ranks. It would be some promising gamble if Arsenal pay around £12-£17 million for the midfielder.
Danilo’s Palmeiras teammate, Dudu gave an insight on the midfielder earlier this month. Dudu had a lot of admiration for Danilo, even urging him to join a club like Arsenal or Man United. While speaking to ESPN, via Goal.com Dudu said, “He [Danilo] is a star, he has to play in the Premier League. I always tell him: ‘You have to play in Manchester United, or Arsenal. Dudu further continued, labelling the Arsenal target a ‘complete midfielder’. “
