With the January transfer window now in full flow, all the teams are looking to add reinforcement to their squads and Arsenal are no different. Arsenal are currently enjoying a decent season. Mikel Arteta and his squad have turned things around quite quickly after the club were dead bottom of the Premier League table after their first three games.

The Gunners are currently 5th in the Premier League season, with 35 points from 20 league games. Arsenal still have a great chance to make the EFL Cup final as they managed to keep a clean sheet in the first leg against Liverpool with just 10-men after Granit Xhaka was send-off. But the gunners are out of the FA Cup after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners have built themselves a really good platform to end the season with a trophy and also get back into the Champions League. Mikel Arteta is keen to add reinforcement to the squad to keep up the decent form and achieve the club goals this term.

Reports coming out of Emirates Stadium suggest that the club have drawn up a seven-man transfer wishlist for the January transfer window. The list includes five midfielders and two striker options the club are scouting.

Arsenal looking for a new midfielder in the January transfer window?

Mikel Arteta’s side look short on the midfield options. Star midfielder Thomas Partey is currently unavailable for selection due to his involvement in the AFCON. While his midfield partner Granit Xhaka’s decision-making is still questionable at times. The club did sign Albert Sambi Lokonga in the summer but the club needs more options in the middle of the park.

Daily Mirror have reported that the club have identified five midfield targets for the January transfer window. The list includes Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes, Paris Saint-Germain’s Georginio Wijnaldum, Juventus’s Arthur, and Palmeiras’s Danilo.

Youri Tielemans’ agent was reported to be at the Arsenal training ground to discuss a potential move. While Bruno Guimaraes ruled a move to Arsenal in the January window, he said:

“It’s normal to be mentioned like this when you are an Olympic champion. I have been called up for the national team and are performing well individually. But I don’t really like to think about it. I let my agent manage that.”

“There has been a change in management. We talked about it briefly when Juninho was at the club. When the time comes, we’ll talk about it again. The focus now is to move up the rankings and put Lyon in the correct position.”

Juventus midfielder Arthur has failed to cement his place in the starting line-up since his move and is looking for a move away from Allianz Stadium in January. Reports suggest that Arsenal are in advanced talks to land the Brazilain midfielder on loan in the coming days.

Arsenal’s striker situation

The gunners are currently in a massive striker crisis. Both the club’s senior strikers look set to leave the club in January or at the end of the season. The former club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still remains exempted from the squad by the manager Mikel Arteta and Aubameyang looks set for a move away from the club. While Alexandre Lacazette’s contract with Arsenal is up at the end of the season.

The club are scouting Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic and Lille striker Jonathan David. Dusan Vlahovic remains the club’s primary target but David is also appreciated by the club. Arsenal are reportedly ready to break the bank to land their primary target in the January transfer window. The likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid are also scouting Dusan Vlahovic.
