According to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), Sergi Roberto is likely to leave Barcelona to join Arsenal at the end of this season if things remain the same. The Gunners have added Roberto to their list of players to sign in 2022. The Spanish midfielder has graduated from La Masia and has been a part of Barcelona since then. However, difficulties in renewing his contract have led him to this situation.

The 30-year-old midfielder is willing to make a move to the Premier League. Arsenal looks like the only serious contender in signing Roberto and therefore, it is a huge positive that the player is willing to make the move. If Arsenal does secure Champions League for next season, Roberto will enjoy his time in England even more.

It is highly unlikely for Sergi Roberto to be a regular starter for Arsenal. Nevertheless, he will still be a utility player for the London club. His versatility and experience at the highest level remain his most sought-after attributes. However, his age could contrast to Arsenal’s project but the manager may want some experience in the squad.

Sergi Roberto has scored the infamous goal for Barcelona to complete the La Remontada over PSG. He was also a part of Barcelona’s many successful campaigns throughout the years. However, his gameplay has dropped along with Barcelona’s fall and he has failed to pick himself as the club has in recent times.

Why Arsenal wants to sign Sergi Roberto?

Mikel Arteta could be familiar with Sergi Roberto’s playing style as both of them have played for Spain in their careers. The Arsenal boss reflects some of the Spanish football’s philosophy in his Arsenal side. Currently, Arsenal could get Sergi Roberto on a free transfer who has prior experience of playing in a side with free-flowing passing.

Moreover, the player is highly versatile which could help Arsenal in their game management after their first half. He could play as the right-back, defensive midfielder, and also as a central midfielder. Arteta could use this so that he can play different systems and use Roberto in various roles. His technical ability and passing can help Arsenal in the attacking areas of the game.

Most importantly, he has very good experience of playing alongside world-class players and in pressure matches. This is what Arsenal players need at the moment to improve even more and get results even in the biggest of matches. Arsenal’s squad is a majority of youngsters but they might need some guidance from experienced players to perform even at the highest levels.

However, many fans may not be in the favour of this transfer and that is mostly because of Roberto’s recent form and age. He has not performed at his best for a long time which is a great concern. Moreover, Arsenal have worked hard in transferring out players who were of no use to the club but were on high wages. Fans believe that could be the case with Sergi Roberto at Arsenal.
