Aubameyang, Ramsey swap deal in consideration by Arsenal: Right move by the Gunners?

As per recent reports, Arsenal are considering a swap deal involving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The Gunners are now ready to offload the Gabon international, after multiple disciplinary issues.

Aubameyang was stripped of his captaincy duties earlier this month due to discipline breach. The player was believed to have arrived late from the scheduled date from a trip abroad. As a result, manger Mikel Arteta, taking into consideration a discipline issue from last season, decided to relieve him of his duties as captain.

As punishment, the player has now been kept out of the main squad for 4 fixtures, three of them being Premier League ones. Amidst all this, the Gunners will now be open to sell the Gabonese in the January transfer window, even though he signed a three-years contract last year.

Ramsey and Aubameyang success at Arsenal

Aubameyang after joining Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund has been a top striker in the English top flight. In 18/19, the player ended the season with 22 goals in the PL and repeated the same feat in the following season. The former captain is also an FA Cup and Community Shield winner. Aaron Ramsey had a great campaign during his time at the Emirates. The Welshman represented the club in 371 games, scoring 65 goals and 65 assists. The 30-year-old midfielder also lifted the FA Cup thrice and two Community Shields in the process, before joining Juventus in 2019. (stats via TRANSFERMARKT)

This season, however, has been a curse for both the players. For Aubameyang, the striker has only 4 goals in 14 league appearances, with a major discipline issue clash with Arteta. On the other hand, Ramsey has been unlucky with injuries. The player has made only 3 appearances in 19 Serie A game weeks.

Is the swap move beneficial for Arsenal?

Aubameyang’s lack of intensity and continued disciplinary breaches have raised major questions. The board will also be worried over his value and would like to cash him in at the earliest.

On the other hand, being a previous success at the Emirates, Ramsey would like to re-sign for the club with full support from the fans. Arteta only has Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe as CAMs, with both being young and inexperienced. Hence, the Welshman’s addition would bring in strength and experience in the Gunners’ midfield.

However, Ramsey is highly injury-prone, therefore, Arsenal needs to monitor the player deeply and not rush in with a decision.
