Audi has no problem supplying engines to teams if asked by the FIA

David Coulthard FIA

Audi has said that the team is “ready” to supply engines to customer teams if mandated by the FIA.

Audi is all set to enter Formula 1 in 2026. The German manufacturer will produce its own engine while working with the Sauber Group which will construct the chassis. Audi plans on taking a significant stake in the Sauber group as they gear up for the new regulations in 2026 and winning races by the third year.

Nevertheless, the supplier with the lowest number of customers will be required to supply power units to another outfit if they fail to get a supplier.

Audi has assured that they are “ready” to do so if asked by the FIA. Audi Formula Racing CEO Adam Baker said:

“We may be required by the FIA to supply engines according to the rules,”

he said.

“If that happens, we would be ready, for sure. But at the moment we are not looking for a customer team, it’s too early for that. We will focus on our program as a factory.”

As Audi has several years, Baker thinks it will give the side enough time to prepare:

“We are aware of the challenge ahead of us,” he said. “It is attractive for Audi to enter in 2026 because we decided early.”

“We have 42 months until the first race. In the last 30 years, it must be one of the earliest decisions of any manufacturer.”

“Also, 2026 is the start of a regulatory cycle, when usually others have entered in the middle of a cycle. They will change the power units, but also the chassis.

“In a way, it can reset the advantage of competitors with past experience, and makes it easier for new constructors to be competitive.”
