Manchester City star Bernardo Silva reveals why he chose City over a move to Saudi side. Silva was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the recent summer. It was again a summer window with black clouds on the future of Portuguese at Manchester. Despite reports suggesting his move away from Etihad in successive campaigns, the midfielder always ends up with the Sky Blues. Moreover, he was heavily rumoured for a move to La Liga with FC Barcelona in the previous campaign but eventually the move failed.
In the latest transfer window, the Portuguese’s representative welcomed some offers from the Middle Eastern clubs. Moreover, few European giants like Paris Saint-Germain were also keen on getting his services. Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Portuguese media outlet RTP, Silva reveals why he decided to remain at the Etihad. He told that,
“I would lie if I said I didn’t think (about the big-money offers from Saudi Arabia). What interested me was the heat of playing a UEFA Champions League semi-final, listening to the (Etihad) stadium going wild after scoring against (Real) Madrid in the semi-finals or when we won the final against Inter. I didn’t want to give up on that.”
Bernardo Silva has been an integral part of Pep’s side over the past few years. Besides this, he is playing an important role this campaign in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne. It is due to the efforts of him and co. that City are still top of the Premier League. The 29-year old will be heading back to England after successfully carrying Portugal to the Euro 2024 qualification this weekend. Manchester City will host Liverpool in the opening fixture of the league after the international break.
