Anfield legend Jamie Carragher makes of fun of the current situation, as both Chelsea and Liverpool fight it out for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Reds entered the race late to sign the Equadorian midfielder this summer. Chelsea were leading the contest for his signature, however Liverpool agreed a record transfer fee of £110m for Caicedo, which surpassed Blues’s £100m offer.

Liverpool shifted their focus from Romeo Lavia as Southampton were firm of their £50m valuation. The Belgian midfielder is now under Chelsea’s radar as a potential replacement for Caicedo.

Speaking to The Overlap, Carragher requests his former club to pay up for the 21-year-old this summer. He said :-

“110M is a big price for Caicedo but Liverpool had to pay big as clubs knew they were desperate.

“But signing two top young players for 145M & selling two of your older players for 52M is great business!”

But the situation is now different, Caicedo personally wants to move to Chelsea.

Carragher retrocede his comments after Caicedo’s transfer conundrum

After Caicedo refused to move to Liverpool, Carragher retract his comments and said Chelsea are doing a huge mistake by paying that much money. He said :-

“110M is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a 21yr old.

“This is embarrassing. Liverpool for years now have got deals done quickly with no fuss,2 the pundit wrote. “If you don’t think he’s worth 50M move on, if you really want him pay it. Also not sure why LFC aren’t in for Caicedo, yes it’s a lot of money but Liverpool got big money for JH/FAB.”
